The Rock · La Roca

I'm back in Barcelona from this year's Long Walk with God, after a memorable weekend in Donegal, Ireland.

While walking along the shores of Lough Eske last Saturday, I shot this photo. I reminds me of Jesus' words about the wisdom of building our lives on the Rock which is He Himself.

They are words especially relevant for the times in which we live.

In the days to come, I hope to have time to share more photos and thoughts from the retreat here on the Blog.

será semejante a un hombre sabio que edificó su casa sobre la Roca;

será semejante a un hombre insensato que edificó su casa sobre la arena;

Long Walk 2010, Ireland

The bags are packed (raingear included!) for this weekend's "Long Walk"
in Donegal, Ireland (my ancestral home).

What is the "Long Walk"? It is a yearly tradition of the Daily Audio Bible, one of the online communities I belong to. Simply said, we all set aside one, intimate day to walk and talk with God.

Last year was the first time I walked the Long Walk, and it was an experience I will never forget (click here for posts and photos).

I've packed my walking stick... and my heart,
with great expectations for this coming weekend.

I truly am NOT what you'd call a "Morning Person", though I love the calm and freshness of the early morning hours. Still, this morning I managed to "escape" from the warm bed, in order to meet Him at the side of Lough Eske. And it's funny: just now as I write this, I realize how many encounters Jesus tended to have, on the quiet shores of a lake.

This morning as I walked by the lake, it was still and quiet, the stillness broken only by bird calls. But then, within minutes, a wind rose up and a small squall blew in, pushing the water away from the shore in great sheets. However, as is typical in Ireland, within 10 minutes the wind calmed down and the lake became peaceful again.

I reflected on how storms and crisis are natural cycles in Nature, part of His Plan. They bring nutrients and disperse Life, as part of His Eternal Flow. How is it then, that so often we do all we can to resist these cycles meant to benefit us, if we consider the Big Picture?

Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore,
but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus...

When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there
with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them,
"Bring some of the fish you have just caught...
Come and have breakfast."

Cuando ya amanecía, Jesús estaba en la playa;

Venid y desayunad."

Welcome to the second path on the Long Walk.
Please first pass by the Lake...

...until we reach the entry to the Woods.

Walk reverently... we are going to talk with God.

Camina con reverencia... vamos a hablar con Dios.

Laying aside our walking stick,
we sit a moment among the clover.
And God sweetly, gently, speaks.

Dejando al lado el palo,
nos sentamos un momento entre los tréboles
.
Y Dios, de forma dulce y suave, habla.

Souls refreshed,
we leave Narnia and return
to This Present World.

Los almas refrescados,
salimos de Narnia,
volviendo a Este Presente Mundo.

And the Wind whispers behind you...
Y el viento susurra detrás tuyo...

And you shall seek Me, and you shall find Me,
if you search for Me with all of your heart.

Me buscarás y me encontrarás,
cuando me busques de todo corazón.

Go raibh maith agat, Leitir Ceanainn!

Thank You, Letterkenny! ¡Gracias, Letterkenny*!

Today's walk with my Master took me to the town of Letterkenny,
where I met the family of Dave and Daphne, shown here
with Grandma Primrose and Jamie, one of their 3 sons.
We were instantly united by the common love we feel for You, Lord Jesus.
Thank you all again for your wonderful hospitality!

Recuerdos irlandeses

Hello my friends!

Paul

"Love thy neighbour is NOT a piece of 'advice';
it's a command."

Bono, I love you brother!!!

"Ningún hombre es una isla, algo completo en sí mismo;
